Basically the super low profile septic tanks are new technology.

The onion septic tanks have been around for about 20 years.  Typically they are about 10- 12 feet in height, and 6-7 feet wide.  They also need a concrete base and blanket around them to stop them popping up out of the ground!

The super low profile septic tank is only 4.2 feet high, and they do need concreting.
